Frequently Asked Questions
About SLC Therapy
What does SLC Therapy do?
SLC Therapy provides independent Speech and Language Therapy for children and young people with speech, language, and communication needs (SLCN). We offer assessment, advice, therapy, parent coaching, school support, and training.
How do I know if my child needs speech and language therapy?
If your child has difficulty understanding language, speaking clearly, forming sentences and/or with social communication, they may benefit from Speech and Language Therapy. If you're unsure, we offer a free 15 minute initial consultation to discuss your concerns. The 'Speech and Language UK''s progress checker can give an idea on how a child is developing and whether you might need some support or advice to help.

Do you work with children who already have NHS Speech and Language Therapy?
Yes - your child can receive private therapy alongside NHS support. If your child is currently having NHS therapy or is on a waiting list, it’s helpful to inform both therapists so that support is consistent.

Getting Started / How do I book an appointment?
You can book an appointment by emailing us at nicole@slctherapy.co.uk.
We can arrange a free 15-minute phone consultation to discuss your child’s needs and the next steps.

How long will my child need therapy?
Every child is different. The frequency of visits is flexible and depends on your child’s individual requirements. This may range from weekly or fortnightly sessions to occasional visits. After the initial assessment, we will agree on the number of sessions together and monitor your child’s progress regularly. Many children benefit from short-term intervention over a few weeks or months, while others with more complex needs may require longer-term support.

Parents are free to stop therapy at any time if they feel it is no longer necessary.

What happens in an initial assessment?
The initial assessment includes: A 20-30 minute phone call to gather information about your child’s history and needs. A 60–90 minute assessment, usually in school, using observations, and assessment (these may be play-based assessments or formal tools). A 30-minute follow-up call to discuss findings and next steps and a report of findings and recommendations provided.
How long are therapy sessions, and how often do they take place?
Therapy sessions are typically 45-60 minutes, depending on your child’s needs. This includes time for liaison and feedback to parents/staff. The frequency varies but is usually weekly or fortnightly, with regular reviews to monitor progress.
Where do sessions take place?
Initial assessment will usually be held at your child’s school. We can then decide where it would be best for your child's therapy sessions to take place.
What happens if I need to cancel an appointment?
Please provide at least 24 hours' notice for cancellations.
If you cancel with less than 24 hours’ notice or do not attend, the full session fee will apply.
